New NXCAM files .mts wont open in Vegas 8 HELP!

Shastasage wrote on 3/7/2010, 8:29 AM
Hello.

I searched the forums and couldn't find and answer, but it doesn't mean it s not there.

I just purchased the New NXCAM and took it for a spin at my son's birthday party yesterday.
When i took out the SDHC chip and downloaded it to my laptop it came out to be a .mts
I have the Sony z5u and it has .m2t and figured it would be the same..not.
Even though it is mpeg-4 it will not open in Vegas 8. I tried changing the file extension to .m2t (as i saw on a google search)and still no luck.

I need to know how to open this in Vegas 8 or any software as i am going on a shoot in Vegas tomorrow and need to see what i have shot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Even directing me to a forum link

Thanks,

Mark

ps i have a 64 bit laptop gateway FX using vegas 8.1

so basically i have to upgrade?

I have been trying to hold off until Sony Vegas 10 is available so i dont have to upgrade 2 times.

Is there any way to get them to open in Vegas 8 without upgrading?

Thanks,

Mark

At least I doubt.

Did the NXCAM come with some software for downloading/conversion?

Maybe try running Vegas 32 bit? .mts files from my Canon Vixia HF100 are viewable on my XP Vegas Pro 8c - choppy but viewable. I convert them to .AVI with Cineform or in Vegas - or (better solution so far) to Sony . MXF intermediates in Vegas.

Also, are you using Vegas Pro or Vegas Studio?
Shastasage wrote on 3/7/2010, 11:28 AM
Yes it does come with it and i downloaded it.
It now opens the files in the content manager to at least see them and it changes it to .m2ts files but they still wont open in Sony Vegas Pro 8.1 64 bit.

Can i use Sony Vegas 8.0c on this machine? can i run a 32 bit on a 64 bit machine?
Would i have to delete it all and reinstall the 8.0c?

Thanks so much!

Yes. You can download 8.0c 32 bit and use it on a 64 bit machine. No problem. Use the same serial number as for 8.1 . You can run both on the same machine. No need to de-install the 8.1. Here's a link to 8.0c 32 bit. This may help since you may be lacking the 64 bit codec to run your files.

8.1 has some known problems. Mostly folks here stay away from it. 8.0c 32 bit is very solid.

or (better solution so far) to Sony . MXF intermediates in Vegas.
The MXF intermediates are simply renders of your original files that are done within Vegas to change them into a format Vegas likes better. This is useless to you unless you can place the camera files on the timeline.

Hello,

I have tried the link you gave me and have gone to it directly in explorer and firefox but it is hanging up forever at the last two seconds and then giving an error report

something must be wrong with the Vegas 8.0c download link as it does it on my wifes laptop as well

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Link opens fine for me and the download moves along quickly - must be something on your end for download - your service provider maybe?

Yes. I went to the end of the download just now. No problem downloading 8.0c Try this link -- just a different way of getting to the same place so it might not help.

ok i got vegas 8.0c installed but it will not take any of the files.

.m2ts

.mts

,mxf

It does claim something about not enough memory as a reason it couldn't open.
However my laptop is one of the best out there with plenty of memory.
So i cleaned it with CCleaner...and restarted and it said the same thing

Any ideas?

After this i will go trial version of Vegas 9c.

But i sure hate to have to pay the $250 for an upgrade and have the next version come out right after that. Does Sony offer any kind of protection from that happening?

Thanks!

I think V8 is just too old to support the brand new NXCam format. There are many, many different ways to handle AVCHD encoding. Camera producers take care of this. This needs modifying decoding again and again.

Vegas Pro 9 is your friend. ;)

Not exactly...

[IMG=http://i666.photobucket.com/albums/vv28/perroneford/NXCAM/Screen2.jpg]

That's an NX5 file in Vegas 8.0c.

It should work just fine.

Wow...OK...thanks!

i had read on different forums that this was possible and now i see it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to increase memory when the error reading says low memory?

i have 4 gb ram and there is still 170 gb of storage on a 7800rpm laptop

Is there something within Sony? i know i use Adobe Premiere elements as back up and it has a way to adjust it but have no idea where it might be on Sony software

Thanks You!

OK problem solved!

Got it working in both 8.0c and 8.1

My video editor told me he could not get the audio to compress properly in FCP and it was taking forever. He asked me if i had any other options for audio...there is a Dolby Digital option which i changed it to and sent him a small clip....he said it worked. As he was telling me this i opened up this new audio dolby clip and it opened in 8.1 perfect.

I then opened it in 8.0c same thing...perfect!

So thanks for all your help and i hope this discovery can help others who might have issues from the PCM audio option on the new NXCAM

Thanks,

Mark

Oops. Yep. Sorry - should have thought of that! Anyway I think you've gotten very good advice here. Best of Luck.
