Well, I got my hands on an SD9 1920x1080/24p clip. Causes an exception error in VP8b just like the original Panasonic AVCHD files from the SD1 did with Vegas 7. However, it opens and plays fine in Nero 8. I haven't had a chance to play with it much but it looks like Sony will have to update Vegas for these files.

Having now had an opportunity to test various clips from the SD9, only the anamorphic 1440x1080 clips will open in Vegas Pro 8b. Any of the full HD (1920) files crash Vegas.

Ok I can not get 1440 to work. Even the Pinnacle HD that came with the camera will not convert the files, it tries but no luck.

I did however make a
MPEG-2 disk with Panasonics HD writer and play it in a PS3. Even those files crash Vegas.

My review of this camera: Buy a Canon or Sony AVCHD
So does anyone know if B&H Photo charges a re-stocking fee?

Thanks

Not if you apply the refund to another product from them.
I've had great results with both the Canon Vixia and Sony CX7 camcorders and Vegas. SD1 eventually worked great in Vegas, as did SD5, if it weren't for their damned stabilzation system, I'd probably still be using the SD5.

BTW, try the latest build of Vegas Movie Studio 8, it seems to be managing the SD9/1920 files.

Spot,

Can you confirm that you were able to read Panasonic HDC-SD9 files with Vegas Movie Studio? Vegas Pro 8.0b hangs, as does Vegas Movie Studio Platinum trial, and Vegas Movie Studio trial thinks for a while, then says "Error".

My SD5, on the other hand, works fine with Vegas Pro.

psgcooldog,

Any further progress on the SD9/1920 files in Vegas Pro?
Aside from this problem, how do you like the SD9?
My main activity is mountain climbing, and the SD9 size/wt look good.
