VF will create(burn) VCD's only. Using the basic plugin you can render many different types of files but if you want to burn to a format other than VCD you need another program for that. I'm not sure why but the market seems to think that NLE programs should just handle editing and maybe rendering as well;) They tend to leave burning to seperate programs such as Movie Factory or Nero 5.5. I too was looking for a all in one solution but had to give up and accept that no one program really gives you end to end coverage if you want to make DVD's or SVCD's(and does it well). But don't feel to bad. There are some people that use 1 program to capture, 1 to edit, 1 to render and 1 to burn, so it could be worse;) I'm expecting this to change as DVD writers get cheaper. You really should be able to accomplish most task with just 2 programs VF amd Moviefactory. VF is definitely the best editor for the money and Moviefactory is pretty solid for burning. VF will handle writing back to DV if that's your bag and you can always use passthru on the DV cam to write to VHS if that's your target. Nero 5.5 is a good burn program that will let you create non-standard disc (XVCD, XSVCD) if you need to go that route. Both Movie factory and Nero are available for free trial period.

Sarasdad,
I use VF to produce VCD's and CD-ROM's and am okay with the quality. However, I plan to upgrade to DVD as soon as I can get a DVD burner so I purchased Movie Factory (while on sale for $25) a few days ago. I'll probably continue to use VF for most everything except DVD creation.
