New Render Problem- Will I ever get this right?

Hi guys,
I know that i have asked many simular questions but I still have not gotten it right! Sorry!
I am trying to get the rest fo the file s to Vimeo and am rendering to MP4 but for some reason the pictrue is not coming out right. The reds are really exagerated and the blacks are like 70%. The picture looks pretty whacked and I can't figure out why.
It'snot the end of the world but you want everything to be perfect, you know?
Is this something that is normal? Have you ever seen this hapening?

Thanks a trillion, ( I already went past a million)

Josh

None of those render setting should affect the color or the black levels at all. Seems to me you've gotten something else out of wack.

Some codecs (e.g. WMV) expect ComputerRGB rather than StudioRGB levels. That'd explain your blacks not being right, don't quite understand what's happening with the reds thouugh.

Try this, nest your original project in another one.
Add an FX that has a StudioRGB to ComputerRGB preset and render from that to mp4. Just try a few seconds to test.

Even so the difference should not be that huge, maybe you've got something more basic mixed up. To get your blacks at "70%" you'd have to work pretty hard at it.

Yes I know,
But don't put it past me to do the super whacked. I have a profound skill to do the Whacked.
I have rendered this thing so many times to so many diferent codecs (original HD to AVI to DVD MPEG or MP4) I am surprised I can even still tell red from black, LOL.

Thanks for the help, will try that and see how it looks. If it doesn't fix it I will finish posting it with in a day or two and maybe you could check it out :)

take care man,

ice

Are you using the recommended settings for Vimeo listed on their forum?

Jim,
I don't think he's even gotten as far as uploading it before it goes wrong.
Well that's what I'm assuming.....

If he has uploaded it then giving as a link for a look see would sure avoid a lot of guess work.

Hey guys sorry to be such a pain,
I did finally get it uploaded (well after this post). I was hoping to get it fixed before I posted it.
It doesn't look as bad on Vimeo as it did in my Quicktime Player. Maybe you guys can tell me what you think.

The video in question is called "Barak Elohim".

Also....
My new problem is .....that when I render to mp4 on one of my other projects is that the audio is not lining up with the video. In Vegas it is percect but magically changes when rendered.
Any thoughts?

Gracias,

Joshua

"Maybe you guys can tell me what you think."

You're blacks certainly don't look like they're at 70%!
If they were they'd be light grey. They look crushed but it's hard to know if that was intended or accidental. It kind of looks to me that you've put the footage through two lots of StudioRGB to ComputerRGB conversion or your footage was ComputerRGB to start with and you 'popped' it again. This is where you either need to know or get used to reading the scopes, especially the waveform monitor.

Aside from that I'd suggest there's some dodgy camerawork and editing in there. I noticed several times you cut into shaky camera moves. With the sort of encoding used in online streaming it gets even worse. 24p is brutal, watch a good Hollywood movie carefully and study the camerawork. If you can't afford all the heavy iron they use then Keep It Simple Stupid (aka the KISS principle) . There's one word to always keep in mind: Justified. Don't do things because you can, do them because they are justified by the story. It took me years to grasp what I should have known from the beginning, "There has to be a reason for a cut". Any transition other than a cut needs a heck of a lot more justification.

There is some really great ideas in there, so do take a bow. Problem is people don't watch a movie to see all the great ideas, they want to watch the story and the best ideas are the ones they never notice.

Like always Bob,
You know how to hit the nail on the head. I see what you are talking about and hope to learn how to make my films smoother, more watchable and so much better over all.

One of the issues with that film was that most of the footage was from our trip to New Hampshire and the North East.
At that time I was not serious in the least about filmaking. I did it for the heck of it and now am trying to salvage what I can to make something to show to people as we travel. South America has no Autum so I thought it would be a nice things to use.
As I am editing I am just furious for the way I shot. I hope that you don't count me out because of this. I can do much better but haven't yet.
I wish I could learn to keep the camera still and shoot stuff in a way that's watch able. But I guess all that will come in time. Hopefully I will learn quickly seeing how this is my first crack at all this and I have no patience. :)
I greatly appreciate your feed back. Obviously you have a world of experience. Can I ask what you do? is there any place I can go to see some of you work?

Also do you think it would be worth messing around with that one to try to get it to come out better? I am not real sure on what I did to make it look funny but maybe I could get it figured out.?

Thanks again for everything and take care,

Josh

ps. did you call me stupid? LOL
