New Sony Offer

Hi all,
just received, via email, an offer from Sony. Basically you can choose from two bundles at full or upgrade price. The offer states that, along with other goodies, you get Vegas 9/DVDA as part of either bundle. It also says that if you already have Vegas 9 you qualify for the "upgrade" price.

My question is: Does this mean that you end up with two, separately serialised, versions of Vegas 9? That is, the one you had before plus the new one? Or will both copies end up licenced under the same serial number - which doesn't make much sense, I know, but the email isn't that specific.

Does anyone have any knowledge of previous offers that have been similar, and thus can shed some light on this? To me, the value of the bundle is getting a separate licence so that I can get network rendering to function the way it is meant to.

Cheers

Russ

Hello Russ,
your current version will permit up to three computers using the same package... network now... no need to purchase more copies. You can install more with the understanding only one is used at a time... networking was a bit complicated for me, so I never did implement it; I do have the program installed on different machines just in case I get the urge again.
I did receive the same email today ... I was confused at first, but perhaps it is the official release of the new packages - not targeting current users, or those who purchased the advanced upgrade, but more likely those considering a purchase...
I'll also wait for further explanation. . .
Not sure if I ran into this sort of email from 7 to 8. . . I guess I wasn't paying much attention at the time... (grin)

Until that time... Earl J.

Hi Earl,

thanks for the reply. I have successfully got network rendering to happen with some output formats, but the one I need the most will not work unless the licences on the PC's are unique. I believe this has something to do with the copyright licence that Sony pays to various licence holders to use their codecs.

So I really need a second licence to get the most out of my setup. I travel permanently and, as such, am limited to what I can carry. For this reason I use two laptop PC's and even though they are spec'd to the max, they are not as powerful as desktop PC's. By networking them I hope to wring out as much rendering speed as I can.

Cheers

Russ

Hello Russ,
this forum is the greatest... I learn something new about Sony Vegas each time I visit...
some things I'd rather not know... (grin) but for the most part, very educational and entertaining - as well as useful...

The question now becomes if you purchase the upgrade version, will it work independently as a full-fledged version? hmmm...

Very interesting... thanks for the come back... until that time... Earl J.
