All Windows operating systems up to and including Windows
Me have a file size limit. Windows 98 and earlier have a 2
gigabyte file size limit, and Windows Me has a 4 gigabyte
limit.
Windows 2000 has thankfully removed that restriction where
there is no file size limit. This comes in handy especially
when capturing very long video pieces into your computer.

Don't jump to WIN2k just yet. If you're running a Delta
1010, you're going to be limited to just 2 channels, Left
and Right. That's it for now. Sonic Foundry refuses to
say how long it's going to be before Vegas will support all
10 inputs. The funny thing is, they bundled Vegas with the
1010 without mentioning that it wouldn't work with WIN 2k.

jp3 is exactly right about the 2 input issue with windows
2k.. i have a friend going through the same issue right
now , but what sucks for him is that he has a dual
processor machine that has been running on windows 98 the
last 6 months because his gadgetlabs soundcard didnt have
2000 drivers.. then the card got fried in a freak lightning
strike so he bought a delta 1010 based upon the fact that
it had windows 2k drivers and he could finally take
advantage of his dual processors.. WRONG... hes only
getting 2 inputs.. some people have no luck..

ps.. the 2 gig/4 gig file limitation has nothing to do with
what version of windows your running.. well , it sorta
does.. if running the fat16 file system with windows 95,
98 , or ME your gonna have a 2 gig file limit.. if you use
fat32 the limit is increased to 4 gigs.. but , if you use
the nfts file system , the limit is removed.. and of
course , only windows nt and windows 2000 support the nfts
file system..

Watch it with Windows 2K. See my earlier reaction to this
news about Vegas only supporting 2 channels. What a
disappointment. I just dropped a ton 'o cash just to go
back to an inferior OS that could crash at any second.

Does this mean that with NTFS, you could have say, a 25gb
avi file? Would this be possible? If so, it would be like a
feature length film if it was a DV avi. So providing you
had enough drive space, you could theoretically create a
100 minute movie in Vegas Video, output it as an avi file,
and then record it back onto DV tape via the Video Capture
program?

Unlimited file sizes withg NTFS? Yes. We routinely use 100+
Gb .avi files with Vegas in our SF Media Services division.

I got win 98se and I should be up and running by the weekend. I hope she flies straight. I'm wondering about
punching in and out in Vegas. I'm a guitar player at heart, and this is standard for the multitracking I've done
before, but I thought I read somewhere that punching into vegas is not so simple, or even not done? Strange,b
ut could it be true?

Wow.. that's big. I'd imagine you'd be running Raid drives
for those, as I don't know of any drives that large.
Anyway, it's good to know, incase I ever try something
rather large in size.
