New system upgrade questions...

I've bought some new PC hardware to replace my tired old P3 setup, and I have a few questions.

I bought the Intel Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz, an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard, and 2 gigs of RAM.

Would it be smart at this point to upgrade to Vista 64, or would I be better off waiting for Vegas to release a 64 bit version?

Or, should I stick with XP Pro, or even run XP Pro 64?

It is my understanding that Vegas 64-bit will really shine with 8 cores or more. Vegas 32-bit already uses 4 cores so there is no need to go to Vista 64 since your Quad-Core will work just fine with Vegas 32-bit and Windows XP. Also there will be no difference between Vista64 and XP with only 2GB of memory. You don't need 64bit unless you plan to use 4GB of memory or more.

I have spent some time on Vista and I absolutely hate it. The interface is annoying, always bothering you with questions about should I run this program that you just double clicked on? Well... Duh! why do you think I double clicked on it??? I couldn't stand it. I know people will say that you can turn all that stuff off but personally, I shouldn't have to spend hours tweaking software just to use it. I already have none of that annoying stuff in XP and so I personally see no compelling reason to use Vista64 until you get 8 cores and over 4GB of memory. (your mileage may vary... some restrictions apply... void where prohibited by law... ) ;-)
