New to DV capture with 5.0

I recently got a miniDV camcorder and was wondering if the DV files are only captured in AVI format? Is there any way they can be captured as another file? Such as an MPG2 for direct use in DVD Architect? I have captured as an AVI but when I re-encode to an MPG2, the quality goes way downhill. Any help would be appreciated.

No. You capture as AVI and then render to MPEG2. What preset are you using for rendering to MPEG2? Try looking through the newsletter where I discuss this process.

I would also think that any method that could capture MPEG2 in realtime is probably going to be worse than the quality you would get by capturing AVI and rendering to MPEG2.
