New to HD- Capture Issue

stevengotts wrote on 5/4/2009, 9:54 AM
I cant cripple the Autoscene detection for hdv like I can for dv. the option says I can, but still splits into scenes causing me confusion while rendering a 3 hour speech over 3 tapes giving me 43clips with no deliniation between tapes so the 3 hours can be split and menued. Is my only option to recapture, each time setting up new capture folders. Man, thats three more hours of downtime on top of the the previous 9 hours of attempts at it. Is this a known issue with sony capture and hdv.
Thanks
Steven

vegas 8 pro and 8.1 pro installed on vista64 keep on fully random splitting , even with scene detection putten to OFF.
pro8.1 does not even show capture preview in vista 64 and splits even more randomly.

The splitting is even useless since each split has gaps between the split as long as the pre-roll is set ( I can´t set it to zero , 1 is the lowest ) which means loosing minimum 1 second video between each split -> complete useless

vegas 8 pro however on vista32 does the job as it is supposed to.

Did loose myself lots of hours and tests to figure this out , which can be repeated non-stop.

Amazing such basis important function not working for such long time , and if not resolved in vegas 9 , even more bizar , one would require a dual boot or seperate 32 bit OS to capture only with sony vegas

I capture HDV in both 8 and 8.1 with Vista as one long scene without breaks. So its not a problem for everyone. BTW I do not capture to the system drive.

I cannot capture from HDV tape on my HP Vista 64 laptop no matter what I do. It seems to be broken from the driver level since the symptoms are the same regardless of which software I use (Vegas, HDVSplit, Nero, Roxio, Premier Elements etc.). The transport works, but no video goes over the firewire connection.

Video capture in SD is fine on the same system.

My way around it is to use the 32GB Transcend CF cards with my Sony Z7 instead of tape (which works incredibly well). If I absolutely need to use tape, I capture with the family computer.

I also never capture on system drive , there is 4 drives installed of which one dedicated only for capturing. ( 10k speed drive )
Swapping on same workstation the 64bit vista HDD with 32bit vista HDD , makes pro8 capture one lenghty video .
Camera sony HVR-V1E as being used now for more then a year on this system

Well Thank You all for sharing your experiences, so I can figure a workaround. Im running 8 w/xp pro on a Boxx workstation, and capturing to an Internal Raid. Looks to me I will have to capture to seperate folders as a work around. Thanks
