New update won't load mov format & intermediate render option missing

Stephen-Shelton wrote on 3/15/2021, 7:03 AM

Just updated with latest format (once found out how to actually update as update button didn't work) but now the new version won't load *mov formats of files created by its own magix intermediate codec. I now look at the render options and Magix intermediate render option has completely disappeared!! I've nearly finished a massive project of 2 months needing this format importing and rendering and it's all gone! I'll try not to swear here, my own fault for installing straight away and expecting SV to work ok. Any one know what's happened?? Can I/How can I revert back to the previous version of SV so I can at least carry on with my project and use and render in mov format? Many thanks PS and now my forum page is all in German too

Try https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/ for English or click on the flag on the bottom right to leave the German forum : )

Under render options, Apple ProRes replaces Magix Intermediate (generic ProRes).

Do you get an error when you load Magix Intermediate files? What happens? I have to see if I have any of these around to test. I had been using MagicYUV as an intermediate instead.

I get this message loading a mov file created in this pre update magix intermediate. Sorry posting a little confusing as my forum has gone to german for some reason

.veg is a project file, not a media file.

Awesome good news RE: Proper Prores support.

@Stephen-Shelton You should be able to reinstall the build 434 to get your project out the door.

I have some Magix Intermediate files I can test, waiting on the download, very slow.

If you don’t want to wind back VP you could always convert the older .mov files.

Yes, that is the project file I'm trying to open up (not load). I then get messages can't load up the individual mov files that are contained within it. The veg file opened up fine before this update. Here is the format mov I rendered from a sub mix that it now won't load up

That would be great, thanks ...but I'm a bit thick! How do I do that?

So that image was referring to the file I was trying to open, that has magix intermediate mov files contained within it, which now won't load. The 1st message I get is this like as if the file isn't there. it is but it's not reading that mov format by the looks of things (a format SV created itself - two days ago pre this update!) It gives thismessage for the other mov files set up in it and then I get that first message I posted about the veg file I'm trying to open. As said, it opened fine before this wonderful new update

set wrote on 3/15/2021, 7:29 AM

ok, now try in new empty project, and put that 'old' Magix Intermediate MOV file. Is it working?

Try restart your system after installation, it's possible this can also solve some issues.

@Stephen-Shelton @RogerS Magix intermediate file loads ok on b482. Tested on both FHD and UHD. Both were Magix Intermediate 422 HQ.

I don't think this is an update problem. It looks like you moved the veg file to a different folder and now it can't find the media (or the opposite- the media moved). Help Vegas find one file and it should be able to find the rest.

Nope, I haven't moved anything. I direct SV to the exact same file, still there in the exact same location and it won't load it. It loaded fine yesterday and all the days before that before this update. It is 100% caused by this update I can assure you

@Stephen-Shelton @RogerS Magix intermediate file loads ok on b482. Itesyed both FHD and UHD.

but it doesn't on mine, I'm not making this up. Maybe it has something to do with the specific format I used in rendering the mov file - see above jpeg. The best quality one, 422 HQ ? I've found video players don't like this format?

Hi. I've opened a new project, tried to load the mov files (that I created only yesterday from pre update SV Pro 18) and they won't load. Again thanks for advice and worth a try, but no success. And to re-itterate, they loaded up fine yesterday before this update.

Usually I use 422, and no issue

This is not the error Vegas gives when it can't load a file. This is the error Vegas gives when it can't find a file.

Please go up to the media in your project, find a Magix Intermediate file and drag it to the timeline. What happens? Or reimport the same media ("import", find the media and then drag it to the timeline).

If it works for one you may be able to use the "replace media" feature to swap out old for new.

422 isn't the highest quality ProRes and Vegas doesn't really care which one it is. The highest quality ones have ridiculously high file sizes and play back poorly, though.

Yes, I've been using them all the time ...up until today, when they won't load up any more

JN- wrote on 3/15/2021, 7:58 AM

@Stephen-Shelton The two files I tested were Magix Intermediate 422 HQ. I swapped the Deprecated Quicktime feature, on and off, I had had it on, makes no difference, still loads the old files.

I also successfully loaded a uhd Magix Intermediate 422 and uhd Magix Intermediate 422 LT. So thats all covered really.

Well that is the error message this is giving when it can't load the file in this case. the files are there, they haven't been touched since they worked/loaded fine yesterday and this is what comes up. I have just tried loading these files into a new project. I go to upload media, it sees the file there, I click on it ...but it won't load. To reiterrate - these files were created in the last few days in SV Pro 18 and loaded fine yesterday. It is 100% this new update not reading that format of file.

I'm curious to find out, what File I/O plugin is used to read this

It is so4compoundplug.dll

Have you probably disabled the so4 ?

try uncheck the 'Enable legacy AVC decoding' if it is.

YOU'RE AN ABSOLUTE STAR!!!! Unchecking enable legacy AVC did the trick, thank you so much. No idea what happened there to cause that, as said this veg file and the mov files loaded absolutely fine when I was using it yesterday, before this update, and didn't do any settings change. Anyway fixed now and I'm very happy! Thanks again

Thanks for trying to load the files and reporting what happens- that was a critical detail : )

Looks like Set figured it out- the decoder used now for Apple ProRes was disabled. I can also note that "official" ProRes files are also using so4compound in this version.
