Hey gang, to launch the new VASST website, we've got a new set of contests going.
You can view them on the VASSTpages. Look at the contests page.
First place for each contest is a complete collection of EVERYTHING VASST, that's a $1600.00 plus value for the winner of the contest. Second and Third prizes awarded as well. Users of the site will vote for the winning projects.
Also, don't forget to check out the free stuff pages on the new VASST site in addition to everything else that's there.

Hey spot, when I went the VASST contest page, alll I get is a list of prizes, no actual contest. :) Is this a "choose your own contest" kinda thing? :D

Nope. Refresh the Contests page.
The information was originally only on the veg/reviews/tutorial/scripts pages, but I've had it duplicated on the Contests pages as well.

The deadline is also only listed in the downloads section -- it's November 1.

Spot, I think the contests you run are a wonderful carrot for the Vegas community to get creative in a friendly, competitive spirit. I know you don't really profit from them, except for some added exposure, so there's a limit to how much organization you can devote. But I've never understood your voting rules. Have you ever seen another contest that allowed voting before all entries were in? Wouldn't it make more sense to have a voting period after the submission deadline? Perhaps, with another announcement to the community to visit and cast their votes?

I've enjoyed participating in your previous contests (and even winning one!) but this issue has always struck me as a tad unfair. Hope you understand my concern. Regardless, thanks again for hosting.

Problem is, people don't come back and vote. We run the contests to keep folks trying to use new things, and no, we don't profit from them at all, other than it keeps traffic high on the site. We've tried holding voting til all entries are in. We're likely going to change the cut-off date because the announcement didn't go out til today. We expected to have good web access in DC for mailers, etc. Boy were we WRONG! Even Starbucks didn't have access in the area of our hotel, nor did BORDERS or Barnes and Noble. All three are stalward access points in most cities. As much as I like DC....web access downtown sucks.
Your point is noted, and others have made it. And we've tried to do the other method as well. But we ended up not getting votes in.
Our next contest, coming up for Christmas, we'll maybe try again, and see if it works now that there is a much larger Vegas community.

A sad day indeed, a Starbucks without T-mobile....... truely criminal. Why, didn't Al Gole invent the internet while in D.C.? When he left town, he must have taken it with him to punish the visiting public. Since the public wouldn't let him play President, you can't play with his creations.

It's a phone-in video contest. Just call the toll-free number provided and at the tone describe your Vegas project. Please try to keep your description to 2000 words or less and try to complete it within 15 seconds. The judges will base their decision on your project's originality, execution, best use of all the FX available in Vegas, and how inebriated you sound on the voicemail.

Good Luck!
