New Video Card - now what?

I just installed a new Nvidia GTX580. Vegas now sees it but when I try a video preview it's no faster than with my old card. I have not tried a render yet but I thought I would see some improvements in preview. What does CUDA 2+ do for me?

Have you check for the latest NVIDIA gpu drivers? If using the driver disc it's already out of date, NVIDIA recently released an major update spanning nearly all GPUs. Hope this helps.

What format are you editing?
Lots of Layers/Effects?
How many FPS are you getting during preview?

not only the gfx card counts, but also the whole system (PCI express version, MoBo...)

i have a quadro fx 580, and the opposite is true, slowerer preview and renders with GPU acceleration!
