Hi all.
I've been using VMS 9 for several years to edit (originally) Canon HV30 HDV files and now Canon HF S100 and HF S200 AVCHD files. My system was a core 2, 1.86 ghz, 4 gb RAM that was just "adequate" for the usual multi-camera videos that I edit. When VMS 10 came out I gave that a go, but in some respects it was worse than v9 (as many of you know). So I stuck with version 9 and worked around the problems of "jittery" previews and long render times.
Recently the Intel "Sandy Bridge" processors were introduced. So I decided to
build myself a dedicated editing machine with an i7 2600 processor, 8 gb RAM, and a Nvidia CUDA video card.
First I tried it with VMS 9. Big, big difference! Previews and such are butter smooth. Even at the "Best, Full" setting. But, I couldn't get it to render to anything HD past about 30 seconds in length without VMS 9 crashing or freezing.
So I tried VMS 10 again. After tweaking a couple of preview settings, once again, great smooth preview and timeline scrubs. And the renders came off without a hitch. Quick, too. And of course, VMS 10 is not using the full 8 gb RAM since it's 32 bit. So it seems that it's all about the processor. And probably some video card help, too with the Sony AVC render.
This is a long way of getting to my question. But I wanted to give that report in hopes of helping others. Is there any way of my transferring the many presets that I've saved? Transitions, Video FX and the like. Are they stored in a certain file or folder?
Thanks,
Bill
