New VP build: where are my presets?

megabit wrote on 1/19/2012, 12:58 PM
I'm in the middle of a project, consisting of several smaller sub-projects. Two of them are completed, and I have defined a number of CC plugin chain presets for using in clips coming from different cameras. OK, so far so good, but...

- the current project not having a very strict deadline (like my previous one did), I sort of treated it lightly and made a mistake of installing the new VP 11 build. To my horror, all my presets disappeared, so I cannot re-use them in the remaining sub-project to make the material look identical with the 2 already finished!

Did a quick search, but could find the presets anywhere on my disk. Questions to those knowledgeable:

- where do preset definitions reside?
- will they work if I find them, and copy to the current location the new build is using?

TIA

Piotr

Piotr,

I'm sorry that I cannot help with specific answers to your questions.

But, remember that all is not lost. You probably thought of this already, but you can open up the fx in an event in one of the complete (or reference) projects and recreate or re-save the specific preset that is now missing. If you have a lot of them, I'm sure this is a lot of work (that you shouldn't have had to do, in my opinion, with an update). But, if it is only 10 or so, then that might be quicker than trying to track down the location of the presets.

Good luck.

In %userprofile%\Documents\OFX Presets, values for individual FX options are stored (when you press the diskette icon in the filter dialog window). However, I still can't find the storage location for my saved chains of presets...

Try here?

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Sony\FX Packages\{5CF89E88-8BAD-4E24-B8D1-D459DA5BE108}

Last {....} folder is one of mine.

Or it could be in the registry

Regedit, then search for "FX Packages"

Thanks Willem - I found mine there, too (did search the Appdata folder system before, but somehow missed this particular directory).

However - since the 521 build doesn't see this location automatically - how do I know where to copy/move them?

Duh...

Piotr

PS. Of course I used the most obvious method: created a new chain preset in hope I'll then find it on disk, and move the lost ones there - but I can't find it :(

PSPS. Looks like I found a serious bug - the newest build's presets reside in the same location (separate {.....} folders) as the previously defined ones, but the latter are simply not seen by 521 ! VP only sees the presets defined with the current build.

I'm going to file a bug report; please back me up if you can confirm this finding. I'm also asking for a new preset-related functionality: when a specific plug-in chain, applied to media or event, has been saved as a preset, the preset name should display in the OFX dialog window (in addition to the actual FX chain). After any FX parameter is modified, the preset name should by appended with asterisk (*)... What do others think of the idea?

Out of curiosity, I did registry search and found only one entry; no surprise it's related to the test preset definition I created in build 521. The full name of the registry branch where it is located is:

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DirectShow\Presets\FX Packages

I wonder if VP11 521 would see all of them (physically sitting in the C:\Users\my_user_name\AppData\Roaming\Sony\FX Packages\ directory, with only the single one that was created by the current version visible) - if I manually created registry entries for them... But I guess that rather than playing with the registry, I'd better re-create them manually one by one...

What do you think?

Can anyone confirm that the 521 doesn't see FX chain presets, defined with an earlier version?
