Newbee question

Although I've been working with this for awhile, I'm lost at the moment and I'm not finding the answer in the manual or on line.
I appear to have something switched the wrong way in my preferences. My problem is that I'm not able to view more than one video track at a time. I know that on my last project, I was able to have 2 video tracks, 2 audio tracks AND some text on the screen at the same time. It's not the case at the moment. Suggestions anyone? Thanks!

You may have solo'd one of the vide tracks. Just to the left of the video track viewing area you should see an exclamation mark - this is your solo switch. If this has been clicked on one of the video tracks, you'll only see that track.

mam,

If you're saying that the tracks don't even exist on the screen, there are a couple of things you can try.

First of all, look at the headers for the video and audio track that you do have. I'm talking about the box at the left side of the screen at the start of each track, with a track name, Vol: and Pan:, sliders, etc.. You'll see a little, rectangular button with a number in it in the upper left corner for each track. If the two tracks you see (video, audio) are 1 and 2, then they are probably the only two tracks you have defined. If this is the case, right click on an empty part of the video track header, and select "Add Video Track". Another track should appear. Once you create a new track, you can click and drag on an empty part of the track header box to move the track up or down -- ie above or below the existing track. Right click on the audio track header to add another audio track. (You can have a total of four video and four audio tracks.)

On the other hand, if the only tracks you see are numbered 2 and 3, for example, then you probably have more tracks but they are just scrolled out of view. In this case, look at the far right side of the screen at the end of the video/audio tracks. There are + and - buttons along the *vertical* edge (not the +/- below the tracks). Click the - button to reduce the size of the existing tracks, and hopefully the other tracks will scroll into view. Note that you can grab and drag the little bar between the + and - buttons and do a similar zoom in or out on the tracks. Also, there is a scroll bar along the right side of the screen that can scroll your tracks into view.

And one more thing: if you place the mouse at the top of the lower windows (the media pool and preview window, etc.) you will see that you can also adjust the size of the windows up or down -- devoting more or less of your screen to the track portion vs. the media pool and preview portion.

I hope this helps. If not, please post more details about what you do see and what you don't see.

Thanks for the input .... I THINK I figured it out. It was as though 2 of my tracks were sub-tracks of one (I may not be explaining this right). I just deleted everything and opened up a new file, started over & bingo, it worked as I expected.
Thanks again ....

Perhaps you had Expand Track Layers enabled for the video track? This option is in the video track header context menu (right click in the area to the left of the video track that contains the track name, etc.). Just select that option again to turn it off.

Selecting this allows you to see three subtracks within a track: the A roll, the B roll, and the transition roll.
