Newbie - can't insert chapters

Either dragging the original AVI or an MP2 encoded in Vegas 6 onto the timeline, in neither case do the markers get converted to chapter (don't show in DVDA3 at all).

Also I cannot manually insert a chapter - M does nothing and the icons are greyed.

Any ideas, apart from RTFM ?

My object at this stage is a simple linear video with no menus - just plug it in and play, with FF - REW the chapters.

Alright , fixed it. I was dropping the media straight into the timeline, rather than into the 'Project Overview' first.

It sounds like you were setting that media to be your menu background. By default, projects are menu based, and the timeline showing belongs to the main menu. If you drag a piece of media to that timeline, that's exactly where the media will play -- as the menu. (Which is why you couldn't insert chapter markers-- menus don't have chapters.)

If you don't want a menu at all, go to File -> New and choose Single Movie.
