Well, I was able to capture my first VHS tape to my PC using my ADVC-100. The total capture was over 30 GB in size. I must be missing something, but how am I going to get this video on a single DVD (~4.7 GB) without losing video quality?
You will lose quality. The question is, will it be that noticeable. You'll need to render to an MPG2 which will compress the size down. If you have DVDA it will do that for you.
After you've done your editing in Vegas, which would produce a file - I normally create a finished DV-AVI PAL, I then create Render MPEG files. These are files that reduce the filesize amazingly! You can also let DVDA do the rendering for you.
You will get other help here, but there are some amazing help files here and help to be had on the DVDA Forum.
But yes, this MPEG technology is amazing!
You'll get there . .I promise yah! I was there . . and not long ago either!
Your looking at the uncomressed AVI File that was captured, after you edit it in your NLE if needed you must compress using the "render as" in Vegas to get a mpeg2 video and PCM audio or AC3 audio to 4.35 gig's or less. Use a bit rate between 4000 and 7500 and see if it works for your video.
