Newbie Q on capture file format

Hi guys. I quickly skimmed through the topics and did not see this subject.

I have an HC3 and Vegas Plat. and trying to get started editing....

1) On overcoming the slow jittery preview.... I am wondering when I capture and the playback preview is slow and jittery, do I have to render the captured file everytime to resolve that? I have tried rendering HD and even downgraded to standard def - to .AVI and .WMV - but it is SO slow and file becomes so large! This will quickly take the fun of editing.

2) Or can do capture it another file format other than MPG-2?

3) The default capture MPG-2 - does that become the source editing file?

Maybe you can sum up this quickly. Much regards in advance.

Rob

You need a moderatly fast machine and Cineform Connect or GearShift to convert to an .avi for editing. Search on these topics.

Thanks for taking time to post this. I have been playing around with things - learning more. That Cineform program is a missing link - the "intermediate" files I have been reading about. I ended up just changing the iLink downcoversion to DV and will start a few projects using the lower res and external capture. Vegas seems like a wicked program. I will likely add the Cineform when more confident. Thanks very much again; that little bit of info was actually very helpful.
