Newbie question about rendering

Hi everybody !

I am new at digital video and the whole process of making my own dvd`s.
I have purchased a jvc grx300 digital video camera and use fire wire to transfer to film to my computer. My computer is a Sony vaio P4 2.53 Ghz
with 256 mb of ram.

I have searched the site already but could not find any helping answers ? though i assume their will be good answers.

Here is my question;

I`ve made a movie with vegas 4.0 and now want to transfer this to dvd.
I have already rendered it to mpeg2 or avi .. But i can`t find the result i am looking for. It looks like mpeg 2 has somewhat better result. The movie is about sports, so there are quick scenes. Every time i burn it to dvd their are these stupid lines/things... don`t know what to call it. Looks all "jittery". If the scene is real slow/relaxed there no problems.

what is the best template/settings for top quality ?
the movie is only 20 minutes so lenght should not be a problem.

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be complete.

Thanks.

Some info missing to really think about your post. What exactly is the process here. You can render in V4 directly into the vid and audio that Sony DVD1 will simply import and burn. Any deviation will result in a recompression of the file -- which can give you an mpeg of an mpeg -- which will result in squiggly lines among other things.

What, exactly, are you doing? What are you burning your DVD with, Nero, Vegas, ???? More info please. DGrob

I render the file in vegas 4.0 and then burn the mpeg to dvd
with ulead dvd factory 2.0.

Try rendering your Vegas file to an *.avi and then authoring with ulead. I think ulead will transcode the *.avi into mpeg2 and then burn appropriately. (I used Nero before moving to Vegas+DVD so cannot be absolutely sure). Any ulead folks want to jump in? DGrob

I tried that, but the quality is far worse then the .avi.

If i render as a avi; on the computer there is no problem, quality is ok.

If i want to burn it with ulead, ulead first converts the file to ?? and then burns it on the dvd. This result is of very poor quality unfortunately.

Anyway thanks for your efforts ! very much appreciated.

I also have nero 5.0 should i try that maybe ?

The "jittery" efect could come from your camera. Most cameras have digital imagege stabilization(compensate for fast moving object or fast moving camera) what actually can not handle fast moving objects. The optical image stabilization(analog) is doing a very good job, but that is in "professional cameras and cost couple of thousands of dollars. Then could be the max images capture(line of resolution). what most in store camera have 320. NTSC standard have 525 lines. When capture from camera to computer in AVI format you should have the best effect. It is natural to lose quality when compressed to mpeg.

How do you guys all do it then..?

Please give me some examples ? what programs do all of you use ?

Prior to upgrading to V4+DVD I used V4 and authored/burned with Nero 6. Your experience with ulead mirrors some of the difficulties I experienced with the "transcoding" of my Vegas *.avi into Nero prior to burning VCDs, SVCDs, and/or DVDs.

Ya know, I am not nearly as technically proficient as some of the people on this forum. I finally tired of struggling with it and added Sony +DVD. It's been pretty much effortless since then. My projects are usually pretty straight-forward. I set it up, go to bed, and wake up with a DVD. DGrob
