Newbie question about rendering a file

I loaded a bunch of pics into my timeline, I'm experimenting with making a disc that is essentially a photo show (VCD). When I try to save or render the only choices I get are the .veg file and a text file. Is there a way to save this type of file as .mpg or .avi? Is it just late & I'm having brainfry or what? TIA for any help or advice you can offer.

The save option in Vegas is only for project saving..not a final render..what you want to do is go to the File menu, and go to render as..choose MainConcept MPEG 1 as your file type, click on custom..and choose your template.push ok, and click save
