Newbie question adjusting event length

This is my first time to this forum and I'm new at this program as well, so please bear with me. Are you able to adjust the event length for all events across a video timeline? For instance, can I adjust all of the events in the timeline to 6 seconds? Additionally, is there a way to adjust all of the crossfades to a particular time length as well without merely overlapping each event? Is there a way to input a numerical value for all or a group of events' crossfades with respect to the length of time? Example, I have 18 events in the video timeline and I would like each event to play for 5 seconds with a 1 second crossfade. What is the most efficient way to accomplish this? Thank you so much in advance for your assistance.

Welcome to the forum!

This question gets asked a lot (usually about stills, by people make slide shows) and unfortunately there is now way to do this with a simple script or universal setting.

The best solution is to make sure your Snap To settings are activated and zoom into to your timeline until you can snap to one second at a time. (That means, as you move your clip around or stretch it, it will lock to one second intervals on the timeline.) Stretch your clip to seven seconds, then slide it over until it overlaps the previous clip by one second, and continue this way producing a series of 5 second clips with one second transitions at each end.

With 18 clips, it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to do this, one clip at a time. But, if anyone out there knows an easier way, I'd love to know it.
