Newbie question: Automatic movie to menu linking?

OmegaX wrote on 3/6/2004, 6:04 AM
First of all let me apologise if this question has been answered before, but i have search through the forum and didnt see anything. I probably wasnt using the correct terminology.

I am creating a DVD for my Final Major Project at college and would like to have intro movie segments to be seen before a menu is loaded, just like what you'd get on any purchased DVD.

Is it possible for me, to say, click on a button to take me to a sub menu with a intro movie played before the actual menu loads?

Sorry if that doesnt make much sense, but i cant think how to phrase the question quite right at the moment.

Not with DVD-A. You can have a single introductory clip (first play), but other than that, you can't do it directly with DVD-A.

Do you know of any other software which would allow this, or can you create a decent looking DVD without the multiple intro's?

I ask because i need to make this DVD look as 'pretty' as possible. I need the grade :)

It sounds like DVD Lab will do what you're after, and it's not all that expensive at $99. www.dvdlab.net/dvdlab

The learning curve is a little steeper than DVDA, but they have a number of tutorials. The DVD Lab and DVD Menu Studio package is $143, though you can create nice menus with just DVD Lab.

Your menu button could link to your intro movie clip and then the movie clip would link to the next menu - you can also do various types of menu transitions with DVD Lab.

You could also get really fancy and create a motion menu where your clip is actually the menu background and then you have the navigation buttons fade in (or something) at the end of the clip.

ReelDVD from Sonic, Ulead's DVD Workshop 2 (which has a lot of neat features), and Encore from Adobe are others that can do what you are describing.
