Newbie question: problem viewing MPEGS after install

I just purchased and installed VF 2.0b. Since doing so, I can no longer view MPEGs using Windows Media Player. The error I'm getting is "no combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection". The player comes up, but has only audio, no video. I've tried the MS support site and it recommended renaming quartz.dll and reinstalling WMM. This didn't help. Any ideas?

do you get any kind of error number like
"MMX.386" or something?

I think I've ruled out the VideoFactory install but I'm still hoping one of the video experts out there might be able to help. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version of Windows Media Player to no avail. I've also followed all of the diagnostic steps I could find on the MS website. The strange thing is that WMP version 6.x plays the files just fine as does the Quicktime player. I suppose I could change the default player to be QT but I sort of like WMP for some reason.

Could be a DirectX thing. Check out this page for a whole bunch of error codes including the one you got.

You can also run a little application called the dx diagnostic (dxdiag.exe) that usually is in: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\

Under the Display tab try running the video test and see if anything odd shows up under notes. I doubt it is a Video Factory issue. Media Player can be squirrelly sometimes. I once had some MPEG files that played find in every player except Media Player in which they only played upsidedown and in reverse color. Check Microsoft's Knowledgebase where you'll find a whole bunch of issues on Media Player and Direct X.
