Newbie Questions

Hi,
I'm new to VMS and this is my first post here.I had two questions.I'm down to about 12 GBs left on my laptop hard drive so I got an external 200 GB toshiba. After capturing video will the captured files always stream from the external HD if that was the chosen path when captured? Also,do you keep your projects there too?
My other question is how do you delete a loop?

Thanks,
Steve

You can move the files wherever you'd like them to be, though keeping them on the external drive is probably the best choice. If you move files that are already in use in a project then Vegas will complain that it can't find them the next time you open that project. Simply tell it to search the new location and it will happily use them there.

Usually there's no need to delete a loop. You can pretty much ignore it. But if you really want to get rid of it you can move the cursor to the beginning of the timeline and press I and O. That will set the loop's beginning and end points to 0 which effectively deactivates it.

Stevebol,

The "loop region you can't get rid of" always bugged me too (though it really doesn't hurt anything).

Click on Options > Preferences, then click on the "Editing" tab.

Now put a checkmark in the option "Collapse loop region when no time selection is present".

With this option enabled, you can create a loop region by clicking and dragging, like normal, but as soon as you click to move the cursor somewhere else, the previous loop region disappears.

There's probably some reason that people wouldn't want to do this, but I have my "Collapse loop region" option enabled, and so far it hasn't presented a problem.

Yeah, i tried that option for a few seconds. The problem was that the loop region always disappeared as soon as i clicked elsewhere, and i wanted it to stay! I'd far prefer a manual button somewhere that one could click to remove the loop when you want it to go away.

But, having the loop remain when you don't need it is far far less of a problem than having it go away when you still wanted it.

There is a 'loop' button to activate/deactivate the loop (it's where you find the play, stop, etc. buttons). People tend to overlook this button because we're so used to mediaplayers (wmp, quicktime...) which don't have this...

I just recieved the external hard drive. The included Shadow software only refers to "backing up" files, which I assume means copying files from my laptop to the external HD.So I'm a little confused about sending files or streaming files from the External HD.

Don't even worry about the software that came with it. When you connect the drive it will show up as another drive letter in your explorer windows. Just use it the same way you would any of your other hard drives.
