Hi,
I'm new to work with real footage in Vegas and therefor, I'm also new to rendering. Can anyone please link to a guide or tell me which codecs to use etc. My film is about 1 hour long, and I want the file size to be under 700mb.
What is your target delivery method? If it's DVD then you need to render to MPEG-2 & AC-3 (and if you have DVD Architect, select one of the DVDA templates).
What format you pick to render to depends on how you plan to view the finished project and also on the quality/length you desire and also on the quality of the source file.
For example if you want to burn a CD, then you'll be able to get the 700Mb on a disc, but the overall quality will be rather low, because of the limited bitrate CD's support. If that's what you want, then you'll want to pick a codec and template that supports MPEG-1 or use one of the newer highly compressed format like Div-X that offers decent qualitly. If you're shooting with a digial camera, the hit you'll take in qualiy loss trying to put a one hour vid on a CD will be noticable. So using MPEG-2 and burning a DVD would be a better choice, not because it can hold more material, rather it supports much higher bitrates and therefore the overall quality will be better.
If on the other hand you're making a project to be viewed off some web site streaming or otherwise, again you're looking at the quality/size trade-off issue.
hi, thanks for all the replys. I'm sorry if I wasn't detailed enough.
I'm not going to burn it on cd or dvd, I'm gonna put in on a ftp for download. The clips I'm using is already rendered in 3mbps video, so I won't need more than that. The biggest problem I have had sp far is that when I render the video, the video quality is good, but the text in the credits is very blurry and you're not able to read it.
Like I said, it's only going to be watched on computers, if that helps you.
no offense - but i suspect, as a common thing in pirated movies, is to reduce the bitrate for credits to the absolute min. ... they then of course dont look to good , whlle the rest of the move can look great ..
you cant make them better if it is already done ... and this isnt the forum for such questions..
but if you are making this - go back to your source files and make the credit text larger, use sans serf simple fonts and use ~200,200,200 as the color. Reduce the movement and don't try to get to fancy with them .. though you can have them wipe in from off screen to fit and still keep size large .. Use a good color background that works with the credits (dark blue or black as examples) , just a hint of drop shadow on the txt can help them stand out -- though this coudl backfire at smaller resolutions and just make them look more smeared ...
make sure its rendered progressive (computer you said)
