Newbie (Sound edit Q)

Just upgraded Vegas 9 to Platinum ... and it comes with SoundForge.

How you guys use SoundForge for basic video workflow.

Would I complete standard sound & video edit in VMS, then render to create separate sound & video files.
At that point load sound file into SoundForge and do my clean up.

My concern is keeping audio timeline & video timeline in sync ? ......

Does anybody have some basic tips ? maybe I'm approaching this wrong.

One thing you should probably think about is if there are things you need to do in Sound Forge that you can't accomplish directly inside Vegas. For me, Sound Forge may be useful in hacking a few things before they get imported into Vegas. Once something is in Vegas i rarely ever go back to Sound Forge again.

In my case .. I am using video capture so sound file is included in the DVavi file.
Can you import the DVavi file into SoundForge (I failed when I tried)

Which would mean me rendering post edit to create the sound file .. and if I edit that with no group link to Video file, I will get things out of sync.

I may be missing the point on something.

Well ... maybe this might be more along the lines of what you need ... the one time i use Sound Forge after importing into Vegas is for Noise Reduction. I know how to do it in Vegas but i find it a lot easier to do in 'Forge. Right-mouse-button click on the sound clip in Vegas' timeline and choose "open copy in". That will create a .wav file, launch Sound Forge, and let you edit. When you close Sound Forge it adds the new .wav file with your edits to your project as a take, placing it exactly where the original sound was. As long as you haven't done anything to modify the start/end/duration in Sound Forge then sync is maintained. You can toggle back and forth between the original version of the audio and as many edited versions as you care to keep around with the T (Takes) key.

One caveat ... i use Vegas Pro & Sound Forge Pro. I'm making the assumption that open copy in and takes are available in the studio version. They might not be.
