Newbie - What is the best method to edit a long, long capture?

I was able to capture the video with no problem. The result is a 38 min-7.8 gig file. Now I need to get rid of the trash parts of the capture, and re-order some of the good parts.

The manual talks about clips, scenes, cut/paste and markers... But the manual is very unclear as to what method to use, why, and when.

The "tutorial/demo" included in the package is nearly worthless. I've even searched amazon.com for better instructions/tutorial and found nothing. And although there are tutorials on this web page for many of their other products, there is none for VideoFactory. Why???

Reading the other messages on this fourm, it seems that other people know what editing tools to use when.

Please, please, please... someone give me a hint as to what editing tools to use when? I'm almost to the point of returning this product and trying another...

If you want to re-arrainge the footage, then you probably should have captured
smaller sections at a time. Then you could label these "scenes" however it would
help you to remember them later when you drag them from the explorer to the
timeline. If the events within this 30-minute clip already occur in the order you want
them to and you just need to take out some bad footage in between, do this:
Select the entire clip (double-click) and drag it into the timeline. Where you want to
cut something out, click that point on the timeline to move the cursor there, and type
"s". This will split the clip into two clips. Then, move the mouse pointer to the split.
Notice that when you move the pointer just to the left or right of the split the pointer
will resemble a cut piece of film. You can then hold the left mouse button down
and drag the edge of the clip away from the split until you've removed the unwanted
portion. Once you've removed the unwanted portion, simply drag the one of the
clips over so that it is adjacent to the other. You can split just the video, just the
audio, or both together. You can also trim the video and audio independently of
each other by toggling the "ignore event grouping" on or off.

By the way, being rude and vulgar on these forums is no way to get a response.
In my opinion, this is one of the finest programs out there. Keep your subject
headings short and to the point, and don't ask stupid questions. Take note of the
messages that get a response on this forum and follow their example.
Remember that you're asking complete strangers to take time out of their day to
answer a question they learned the answer to the hard way, so be respectful!
