Newbie with Vegas Transition Trouble

I am using Vegas Video 3 to edit home movies (created with my DV camcorder).
I am trying to add some basic transitions (fade through black, barndoor, etc) between clips,
but I'm having trouble. Here's the deal:

I can add clips to the timeline with no problem. I grab a transition and drop it between
two clips. When I do that, a window opens up with a bunch of settings. That is where my
problem lies.

How do I adjust the settings and then get Vegas to add the transition between the clips?
Is there an "Add" button or something obvious that I'm missing?

Thanks!

I am also quite new to this, but what I've seen is that there is no "Ok" or "Add" or anything like that. The transition has already been added into your timeline. Just adjust any of the properties you want to change, then click on the "X" button in the upper right to close the window.

Also, I've noticed that to change the length of a transition, you move the right hand (B) clip over to the left or right to increase or decrease the amount of "overlap" between it and the left hand (A) clip. This seemed obvious once I did it, but I was expecting some kind of "duration" setting in the properites instead.
