We need more info. What are you using for capture? You should be using Vegas' VidCap utility. If you are using VidCap, is the ADVC1394 showing up in VidCap as a valid capture source? If it doesn't, then does it show up in Device Manager without any errors? Did you contact Canopus? They sell Vegas LE with their products so they should be able to support you.

I use the Canopus ADVC100 external, on WinXP with VV3&4. There is a switch on the front to go from Digital to Analog. Took me an hour to figure it out. In either case make sure your source is on and playing. Only if its on will XP throw up a dialogue bos and ask you what you want to do. (Believe I'll have another drink thank you.) No you have to choose VV on the drop down box. This is all part of XP, because it has sensed a source of material through the 1394 bus line.

Issue: What is your source? Digital-1394 or Analog-RCA jacks? How do you switch between them? Are you set up correctly? Of course this assumes that your PCI card is properly installed and WinXP has found it, and as HeeHee mentioned, that it has shown up in Device Manager.

Hi,
Thanks for everyone's input so far. The ADVC 1394 doesn't have a switch (that I see) to go from Digital to Analog. My source is homevideos that are playing in my Hi8 camcorder, hooked up to the card via Analog-RCA jacks. WinXp has found the card and says its functioning properly. XP is not consistantly throwing up a dialogue box asking me what I want to do when I turn my camcorder on and off. Might this be the problem? Under MY COMPUTER it recognizes a AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player. When I click on the icon I get a box that says "AVC Compliant DV Tape Recorder/Player" yet only seems to be looking for photos. I can't tell if I have Vegas "VidCap", all I can find is that "Sonic Foundry Video Capture is automatically installed with Vegas. You can start Video Capture from the Media Pool or File menu". I have sent an email to Canopus, but haven't heard back yet. Other ideas???
Thanks!!!

In Vegas, choose File->Capture Video.

This will launch Video Capture and your ADVC 1394 device should show up in the Video menu as "Microsoft DV Camera and VCR".

This device is different than the ADVC-100 in that this device is actually a PCI card that support both a 1394 input/output and analog input-only. For DV, make sure to use the 4-pin DV input/output port, and not the 6-pin 1394 port.
