NewBlue FX Film Effects to replace MBL?

Brad C. wrote on 3/15/2010, 10:52 AM
So I've been continuing my search for solid replacement for MBL because I want to move up to 64bit and throw some RAM into my system. I hadn't been real impressed with anything until I saw some of the effects that NewBlue can pull off in some of their plugins. I think its enough to recreate the work that I have already done. NewBlue works with 64bit, so this is obviously a big plus.

Here is my question: Does NewBlue use the CPU like Vegas does, or does it use the GPU like say AAV Colorlab?

Thanks.

If you need some tool missing in NewBlue Film Effects to re-create MBL please look at http://anyfx.info and if missing send me a request at http://anyfx.info/help/techsupport.htm . AnyFX collection contains many tools useful for film effects creation (Gradient/Spot Exposure, Edge Softness, Shakes, Diffusions and many more). If the exact tool you want is missing I can add it in a collection probably. I can even combine the tools you usually use to re-create your favorite looks in one effect - thus you will not need to chain effects in Vegas.

Ivan,

Downloaded the AnyFX demo (Vegas version) and the installer finds Adobe PP by default on my system. Had to renavigate to Vegas plugin folder.

Actually AnyFX demo is "combined" installer for Vegas/ PPro and detects what you have. If you have both, the installer knows where to install Vegas version, but will ask you to confirm PPro location. If you re-install AnyFX, but this time point to PPro location - you will got AnyFX demo installed in both Vegas/ PPro.

Ok, thank you. What's confusing is that on the download page you have a separate choice for Vegas and Premiere.

I do have a question about your 3d six pack. I like the fact that the page turns work the way they are supposed to on photos that are not full screen i.e. they actually start at the edge of the photograph (Vegas inbuilt alway affects the entire screen) . But with 3D six pack there is not any control over the effect other than choosing presets. Have you thought of building a more controllable interface or including an adjustable page turn effect perhaps inside the Spicemaster Pro? Thanks.

The effect behind 3D Six-Pack is very powerful and can make not only page turns, but the price for this is a bit too complex interface. We can try to prepare some simplified user interface, but I not know when we will have this done.

Have you looked at VASST Celluloid and the 5 ReelPaks? They have similar movie looks as MLB but they are all created from Vegas's own FX. They don't use the GPU, of course, but they render pretty fast and they work in 64-bit. Just something else to consider.

Another option that I just became aware but am not totally taken with is FirstLight by Cineform. It only works with their codec but boy is it cool. I started a thread about FirstLight http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=701169&Replies=13here.[/link]
