I an a newby to Vegas and note it doesn't work the way I expect, To be honest I have no idea how to split an video on the timeline (to eg. chop out a bit. I am used to a right click and "split" twice, then remove the piece in between. Sony Vegas doesn't do this. SO what do I do to edit on the timeline? Probably something glaringly obvious... once you know! :)

BTW: why is the forum security to overbearing? I may not have a youngest sibling or a nickname, but who cares, this isn't my online bank account. :(

Hi Mcleaver:

To split your video, place the cursor where you want to split, and press s. Do the same at the end of the clip you want to remove. Then just highlight that clip and hit delete, or right click for the menu.

Reading the quick start guide, going through the Show me how help, and looking for tutorials on Sony's web site (doesn't matter if they're for Vegas 5, 6, or any other version) are the best ways to learn about the application. Good luck!

Here's a YouTube vid that might help -

plus you can do a search there for other vids.

You can also follow the Show Me How tutorial for "How to Edit on the Timeline". Click on the Help menu, choose Show Me How then choose How to Edit on the Timeline.
