On the PC side Matrox DTV, 50Mb/s video, 4x3 native. It can do all the heavy duty FX and survive, or produce any format. That's the PC side, otherwise G5 and FCP -- Either way a DVCPRO/50 camera and (as of yet) deck. Not cheap ($45,000 (?) altogether), but start wherever and not XPRI-land. Not the last word either on the camera (Panny SDX900). It's got to get better (like with firewire or SDTI and full size tape?). Main thing: I can find nothing difinitive that VV can do the 50Mg/s video -- many have tried.
Sony needs to pull its middle-weight cards out and it can't be VHD for professional productions. It needs Matrox DTV-level coprosessor and I/O board(s). But maybe they don't want to compete directly with Matrox/Premiere & Apple/FCP?
