Nice n' warm for NAB

Spot|DSE wrote on 4/19/2006, 7:14 PM
After being in the weirdest weather ever in Utah(snow, sunshine, rain, snow, sunshine, snow all in one day)....gotta say it's nice for 80' degrees in Vegas. Hope to see a bunch of you there at the Vegas Users Party, and be prepared for some really fun announcements. One of em' could positively change your life forever.
Really!

What a tease.

Anyone need anything from Oz?
Need to restock your Vegemite supply?
Sorry Douglas but I'm not able to bring a barra for you.

Bob.

...holographic rendering on vegas 6e?
Spot|DSE wrote on 4/19/2006, 9:02 PM
No vegemite, but I'd be pleased for some Snickers from down under. They taste MUCH better from there. :-)
It's funny, because David Hague and Graeme Hague both like Baby Ruth from the states, and I prefer your Snickers. So, I usually carry a couple bags down. Wish I could bring you some mountain honey, but you can't get it through Customs.

OK,
see what I can squeeze into the luggage!

I'm mostly teasing, but if you have room and weight...I'm happy to buy whatever you bring.
In the US, most chocolate has so many additives, it's lost it's flavor. In Australia, it's much sweeter.
Serena wrote on 4/19/2006, 9:47 PM
Spot, what do you mean by "sweeter"? My experience of USA chocolate is that it's loaded with sugar -- not enjoyable. And do you mean Aussie milk chocolate (as in Cadburys -- rather sweet and not a lot of cocoa) or dark chocolate (a bit of an edge to the taste, up to 80% cocoa, and most satisfying). Dark is good for your heart, too; recent clinical trials.

You're dead right, they tried marketing 'American' style chocolate down here and it was a flop. I agree with Serena, I don't think our variant is sweeter it's just more 'chocolate'.

Just watch out for those roaming bands of thugs in Vegas.

As far as chocolate, I've always liked Toblerone, imported from Switzerland (triangle box).
aussiemick wrote on 4/19/2006, 10:34 PM
From my experience USA chocolate - compound chocolate.

Aussie chocolate made with cocoa butter - non compound - that is the better commercial stuff - Cadbury.

Don't worry the compound stuff has been tried - consumer boycott.

I'll be seeing ya soon, Spot.
As you know I'll be teaching lighting and greenscreen techniques. But thanks to Mannie, I've added a really neat lecture on creative shooting and the use of shadows. I'm looking forward to that one myself.
Meanwhile, I'm reoffering to meet with anyone that cares to, on Sunday. I'll be at the Luxor hotel - leave a message.

Problem is that I've got to catch the redeye out to make the premiere of my movie, "Cowboys of Florida". It's playing the exact same time as the Sony party - DAMN!

I will try to get a few frames of footage up to the party from the film. If some of you have seen this little note already, I posted it a couple of weeks ago - sorry for the redundancy - but I'm anxious to put faces with the incredible brains I've come to know so well.

Seeya at NAB.

Oh, man. That's not even funny. Way to screw with my head.

BTW - Where/When is the Sony Vegas party? I followed a banner link on the VASST page and it took me to a long list of non-Sony-Vegas events.
Spot|DSE wrote on 4/20/2006, 7:45 AM
The party link should have taken you here

North Hall, I forget the room #, but I think it's N 251. Tuesday, 6:30-9:00.
See ya here!

Yeah be careful there have been several muggings recently in Vegas. If your going to walk the streets of Vegas at night go as a crowd.

I'm interested to see what announcement could "change my life FOREVER". I don't even think a Vegas 7 can change my life forever. lol

Have fun everyone- be safe!

Don't know about the ingredients in chocolate, but there was an article in the WSJ recently about how some people pay extra to find Coca-Cola made in Mexico and quietly shipped to the USA. Seems they use cane sugar down there, as opposed to sucrose/fructose syrups up here, and people in the know say it's a very different taste. Maybe the same thing with candy bars.

By the way, I've tasted chocolate from pretty much everywhere, and have concluded that Hershey is the way to go.

In Mexican grocery stores around here you can still find Coke like that. Another plus is that it's in glass bottles.

Tastes like it did when you were a kid.

A consensus seems to be emerging that high-fructose corn syrup is much worse for you that straight sugar.
FrigidNDEditing wrote on 4/20/2006, 9:54 AM
I wasn't around for the old coke - and one day we found some - I tried it, MAN IS THAT SO MUCH BETTER!!!

wish it was still around.

Sam's Club was selling cases of Coke from Mexico (which I'm told is not the same as mexican coke...)

The code name for the new product from Sony is "Viagras"... :-)

Hershey -- as a chocoholic I was really looking forward to that. Food stuffs are carefully formulated for their major market and I'm sure Hershey is very popular in the USA.
