nightmare with DVX100 and frame rates

I have just shot a music video with the DVX-102B and have a recurring problem that I have only had with this camera and another DVX-100.

The problem is that when capturing the footage , it is coming in too slow (Vegas says that the average frame rate is 24.54fps...I am using a PAL camera). I have only ever had this slow frame rate problem with the DVX cameras, as I have used Canons and Sony's before without this problem...hell, even my consumer Panasonic camera comes in at 24.97 using the same problem tapes from the DVX.

This is a real issue , since I am having to sync the audio by hand, which I don't usually mind doing except that in this case I also have to stretch it out by hand to fit the audio.....not fun stuff!

Have tried this on two pcs' both running Vegas 6d and also tried Scenalyser...but they all come in slow, which means it must be a DVX problem, not a software one that I am having.

If anyone can give me any advice here, I would much appreciate it!
Do any DVX users ever have this problem? Could it be because I am recording in progressive (25p) mode?

doesn't the DVX100 record in 25PsF, i.e. 50i?

How are you determining what the frame rate is?

24.54 is a LONG way off 25fps, yikes.

But as far as I know PAL is kind of idiot proof as it's exactly 25.000fps, no fudging at the 4th decimal point unlike film and NTSC so I'm having trouble figuring where the problem is coming from.

Unless you're double head recording audio and in fact it's the audio recorder that's off?

Some cameras don't clock their audio at exacty 48.000 KHz which can cause no end of grief, I know Canon had this happening.

I have hours of stuff from the DVX-100 on my PC shot in 25p mode and captured with Vegas. It's fine here.

Farrs, I am getting the average frame rate displayed after the capture, in the stats window. Each time it states that the average frame rate was about 24.5 (or a bit above or below). Have only ever had this problem on the two DVX cameras I have hired.

Also, using the same tape that was recorded with the DVX and capturing it in with my little consumer Panasonic comes in fine at 25fps.....so I can only guess that for some strange reason the DVX is recording slower than 25fps. Wouldn't be a problem if it didn't need to synch to pre-recorded sound. Kinda takes all the joy out of editing, as this also happened on my last clip (which was a different DVX cam). As much as I love the look of this cam, I will have to go back to the Canon's for future jobs....

So you haven't actually checked the captured clips to see if they're ok?

Oh yeah, I sure have checked them ...they are all too slow , that is why I have to stretch them to fit by hand, just using my ear. These clips are shorter in length than the corresponding same clips captured via the DVX, but still the wrong length in realtion to the prerecorded music. The only conclusion I can reach is that the DVX is recording and playing back at a slightly slower frame rate....god know's why???
