See this thread for discussion relating to Vegas (pro version):

Looks like you'll need to download an MJPEG codec. Morgan is one.
If memory serves, the KLite pack doesn't include a VFW MJPEG codec.

Either that, or upgrade to Vegas Pro 8/9 or Platinum 9. The new versions support D90 files.

I installed ffdshow codec and it doesn't work.
I red the thread you linked to but it didn't show a clear solution - or did I miss something?

So I downloaded a demo of VMS 9 and I'm having the same exact problem - audio is loading on the avi files but no video.

Once again, ffdshow is not an MJPEG VFW codec, but DirectShow. Vegas supports VFW codecs.

Once again, you will need to download a free MJPEG VFW codec. Morgan is one. There are others.

Sorry for your frustration, but since your version of Vegas was released before the D90 was introduced, I could hardly blame Sony for the lack of native support.

Thanks for your help...
I understand that 7.0 was released before the D90, but why isn't the 9.0 demo working?
I still need the MJPEG VFW codec?
Morgan doesn't appear to be free...

Sorry, it used to be. But then I'm an old guy.
You can probably download a trial to see if it works.

Others are Pic Video, Lead, and MainConcept.
Good luck!

Don't know about your trial version issues. I have neither VMS 9 nor the D90. Just a lot of experience with Vegas and MJPEG captures going back to the Vegas 2 / DC10+ days (don't ask how long ago that was).

UPDATE:
I looked up an old post by johnmeyer and found a solution for you that should work. I downloaded it and it works for decoding MJPEG files on a computer that did not have an appropriate codec installed. Hope it works for you too.

"The MainConcept site has a MJPEG plugin. There is a demo you can download. The full MJPEG product costs money, but the demo can be used for free to decode MJPEG. If you encode, the demo will add a watermark, but the decoder doesn't do that. This is what I use."
