Nikon V1 mov files slooooow

I run VMS 12 and my Canon 550D mov files give a 25fps playback in preview, and so do my LX3 video files (motion jpeg). However, I have been experimenting with Nikon's V1 mov files, and here I get less than 5fps in playback for progressive footage and total breakdown (huge gaps) for interlaced footage.
The V1 footage plays fluently in Windows Movie Maker.

Did anybody solve this issue?

I hate converting.... it is so 2010...
The Nikon V1 files work surprisingly well in Windows Movie Maker; they also play fluently in Adobe's Lightroom 4.6. In fact, I was already planning to implement Lightroom in my workflow: I can do color grading and cutting in LR and then export; the exported file then plays 25fps in Sony Vegas.
