Make sure you install the software that comes with the camera. Use it to transfer the files form camcorder to pc.
If that doesn't help, install the K-lite codec pack. It is free, google for it. Also make sure you have the latest version of Quicktime Player installed.

the video plays fine on quicktime or windows movie player just not on Vegas studio 9. I do upload my videos using the software that came with the camera. However I have also imported video using vegas. I downloaded K-lite like you suggested but it did not help any other suggestions?

I am also having this problem, and it looks like a number of other people are. Someone form Sony needs to help us out with this, as it appears to be a chronic problem.

The final answer!!! Simply go to free downloads on the sony sight and download Vegas 9. Once it sees that you already have it on your computer it will ask if you want the updates. answer yes, download them, restart vegas and problem solved.
