No Audio

Hope someone can help. I captured video using PowerDirector 7 saving it to my hard drive. After I finished I decided to create the dvd with DVD Architect 4.5. I pulled up the video but I have no sound. I opened the same video in other programs and I have sound. Hope someone can help. I've not used Architect much and I was wanting to use it more. Thanks.

Ideally you should now have an mpg file -- demux it [separate the audio & video tracks] & see what happens when you import the audio into DVDA. If it works, try importing the audio that way, below your mpg file in the timeline. If it doesn't work, fix it... ;-)

If the audio will open in Vegas, render as something DVDA will accept, probably AC3. If the audio won't open in Vegas, try LameXP or one of the many audio conversion apps available (try videohelp.com) to get a wav file for Vegas to encode.

Please post your file details.
DVDA works best with separate video and audio streams created using the DVDA templates found in Vegas.

I do this all the time. After exporting from PowerDirector, all you have to do is change the file extension from .mpg to .vob. DVDA will then reproduce the sound. Strange but true!

Thanks for all the replies. I am new to most of this. How do you change the mpg to vob? Once again thanks to all, this is best help forum that I have found.

In windows Explorer find the file, right click, choose Rename and then delete the letters 'mpg' after the full stop and type in 'vob'.

Not really... the "Strange" part I mean. ;-)
Nice tip though for anyone using PwrDirector.
Probably the mpg is a little *off* (not unusual for Cyberlink IMHO), & with the VOB extension, DVDA processes the mpg file a bit differently.

That's one of the things I suspected, Mike, but not knowing what codecs PD renders to I wasn't going to make the suggestion until I had a bit more info. Thanks for cutting to the chase on this.

Are the files produced in PD mpeg-2 with aac/ac3 audio and the .mpg extension? That's one scenario that would make sense based on your renaming strategy.

That same tip, solutions to other problems, file extensions, definitions, and lots more essential information that will help NOKNOT and other beginners to be successful is contained in my thread Video no Audio, Audio no Video, File won't Open

Hi musicvid,

Indeed they are.

Cheers
