No audio after rendering

I'm using Vegas Pro 8.0b. When I go to render my project to MPEG2 (using DVD NTSC template, which should have both audio & video), the audio disappears when I play the MPEG. Video is fine. I've tried both the 8 bit and 32 bit floating point pixel setting in Properties (someone told me this might be the problem) to no avail. I also rendered it as an AVI and had both audio and video. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks!

If you're trying to watch mpeg, using Vegas...that's your problem.
Open DVD-A and watch it there.

No, I rendered it to MPEG-2 in Vegas, and then attempted to watch it in Windows Media Player. No audio.

When doing an DVD Template there is no audio associated with the video unless after choosing the template click on custom, then look for the audio tab at the bottom of that screen, click it. Now you can click in the box that says add associated audio. If you are doing this than maybe there is a problem with 8b!

There are several slightly different DVD NTSC templates.
Some include audio and others require you to render a separate audio stream , either PCM (WAV) or AC-3.
Make sure you didn't accidentally choose one of the video-only templates.

I'm using straight DVD NTSC template, settings say:
Audio: 224 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Layer 2
Video: 29.97 fps, 720x480

When I go to the custom tab, under audio there is no "add associated audio" option, but there is "include audio stream", which I have checked on.

This is so frustrating! Thanks for helping, guys!

What does DVD Architect say for your default audio properties (File - Properties)?
Is it set to PCM Stereo, AC-3 Stero or AC-3 5.1 surround sound?
My thought is that it's set to AC-3 and, in your case, should be set to PCM.

I'm not using DVD Architect - I'm rendering the video within Vegas to an MPEG and then attempting to play the MPEG in Windows Media Player.

Do you have DVD Architect installed on your computer?
Do you have any DVD player software installed on your computer (Power DVD, etc.)?
If no to the above, Windows Media Player won't play an MPEG-2 file (licensing issues).

If that's the case, install VLC media player (it's excellent and free) and will play MPEG files (as well as a LOT of other file types).

You were absolutely right! This wasn't a Vegas issue at all. I was not aware that Windows Media Player won't play MPEG-2 files. The file I had rendered worked fine on my DVD player. Thank you SO much for your help! And thanks to everyone else who responded.
