no audio after saving to hard drive

I am using VMS 10. I have made several movies successfully going straight to DVD Architect, no trouble. This time I saved to my hard drive using Video for windows avi format. When I opened the file in my Media Player I had no sound. I also opened the file in DVD Architect and no sound. Am I missing something? I realized that when I chose make a DVD that it asked for two destinations, one for video files one for audio but saving to hard drive it just asks for one. Thanks.

What settings/file type did you choose? It sounds like you picked a video only file format.

Save your video to the MPEG-2 DVD Architect that matches your region (NTSC or PAL.
Save your audio to the Dolby Digital AC3 DVD template.

Import your video into DVD Architect.
The audio will follow assuming it has the same name.

Thanks for the help guys. The thing is I really wasn't saving it to DVD Architect this time. After I finished in VMS 10. I clicked on make a movie. I then checked "save it to hard drive" instead of "burn it to DVD". I then clicked next and it asked for "file path" "format" which was "Video for Windows avi" and template "NTSC DV". It burnt to the file but no audio.

NTSC DV is DV25 video with PCM audio. Unless you inadvertently unchecked the "Include Audio" render default. Or you muted the audio track on the timeline (more likely).

If the audio was included and unmuted in the render, it will play in anything. You can check if the audio track was included with MediaInfo.

I have sound in timeline as far as the "include Audio" default I'm not sure where thats at. I don't understand, as soon as I opened the file and ffound no audio I then rendered the project again to "burn to DVD" opened it in DVD Architect and it had sound. Do you think I should try it again to hard drive? I do appreciate all the help.

If it isa quick render, I would try it again. You may also want to use MediaInfo (free download) and see if there really is any audio in the file.

Thanks for the help. Rendered again and audio was in this one. The first render took way less time than the second, dont know what happened.

I don't know much about this topic but I have an idea what might have happened. In the past I've rendered to the lowest data rate wmv format and encountered the same problem. By doing a web search it appeared that some of the really low data rate wmv formats don't actually support audio, but its not advertised that well. Since you say the first render was very fast compared to the second, it sounds like you may have rendered to a very low data rate the first time around, and a higher rate on the second try. On the second try you happened to select a rate that supports audio.

Edit: As others have said make sure you didn't pick something like "DVD architect video stream" as the output format, that is video only, and tends to render more quickly because its not processing the audio. I also just noticed you saved in Windows .avi format, not wmv, so my original comment appears to be non-applicable. And since "DVD architect video stream" isn't a template option for Video for Windows my second explanation doesn't apply either. The only part I got right was the comment about not knowing much about this topic.
