[ran into this problem recently myself...]
in the Render As dialog you select Custom..., then select the Audio tab (on bottom), then click 'Include Audio Stream'. You need to save the template to keep. I do not know why it does this, it could be just a missed thing that they never got set right (happens in new version 10 also).

This is not an error in Vegas.

DVD Architect expects separate MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio streams. So one renders two files, one video and one audio.There are very good reasons for making DVD Architect templates video-only, which have been explained in previous threads.

There are also other templates that include the audio The custom controls are exposed in VMS 10, but not in VMS 9.

I was able to find a particular combination of settings that audio was recognized, but I can't remember what it was. Thanks.
