No audio importing AAC LC

sanjosedave wrote on 3/26/2013, 4:10 PM
I'm importing MP4 container files shot using my Android Motorola Droid 4 phone into Vegas 11 Pro and I'm not getting any audio. Mediainfo shows AAC at 128kbps, 41.1KHz, 2 channels AAC (LC). ffdshow shows using libfaad2 codec for AAC. Audio plays fine with VLC. I have Quicktime 7.7.3 install (not sure if that's relevant). I notice that when I drag the clip from Project Media into the timeline it doesn't split into 2 tracks (one video and one audio). Not getting any activity on the Mixer master that I can see.

Thanks,
Dave

Try rolling back your Quicktime.
7.6 is considered pretty bulletproof with all versions of Vegas.

Rolled back Quicktime to 7.6 (1292) and now when I start Vegas (after the Welcome pop-up) I get the following error message:

"The playback device Microsoft Sound Mapper does not exist."

Did some research on that and the only thing I could find was under Options > Preferences > Audio Device - changed from "Microsoft Sound Mapper" to "Windows Classic Wave Drive". But that also results in an error:

"The playback device Speakers (Conexant 20672 SmartA does not exist."

Suggestions?

Dave

All I can suggest is reinstall your audio hardware drivers.
Quicktime won't affect how Vegas sees audio hardware devices (it is only software libraries), but you "may" need to reinstall Vegas as well. Sorry this happened to you following my suggestion.

Okay. Got my audio hardware drivers back working again and am no longer getting that error message.

But I'm still not getting any audio on those imported files so I'm back to my original problem except now I'm on Quicktime 7.6.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks,
Dave

Pasting the full MediaInfo properties might give some clues.
Also uploading a short camera clip somewhere (not Youtube!) would give others a chance to see if they can duplicate the issue on their systems.

There is nothing about the file properties to suggest why the audio wouldn't open for you. Indeed, it opens just fine in my Vegas 8.0c with QT 7.6. Audio is present and in sync.

You might try running the file through AVIDemux. A last resort would be to convert it to something else. I hope you haven't inadvertantly installed any codec "packs" on your machine?

I have not installed any codec packs that I'm aware of. I don't know what AVIDemux is but I'll research that and try it. I'm wondering if uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas might be a reasonable option at this point...

It's worth a try.
Best.
