No audio in mp4 clip sent from Vegas to SoundForge

I just purchased VMS Platinum Pro 9 today. All is going well except for one thing. I have set SoundForge as the external audio editor in Vegas. I right click on the audio track of an mp4 video clip in the Vegas timeline and select "Open in SoundForge". It opens the clip with the video filmstrip, but no audio is present. The waveform is totally flat, no audio at all. The mp4 is raw footage from a Flip Ultra HD. Audio plays back and waveform can be seen just fine in Vegas.

I tried the same technique on a standard avi file and it worked fine, showed up in SoundForge.

What do I need to do to be able to edit the audio tracks of mp4 files in SF?

Thanks

I don't think Sound Forge Audio Studio opens AAC / AC3 audio.

Your easiest workaround would be to render the audio to a new track in Vegas Movie Studio, choosing .wav format (takes only a couple of minutes). Then mute the original audio and open the new track in Sound Forge.

Open copy in sound forge works fine as it creates a WAV... but I lose the filmstrip in SoundForge. Tech support suggest I render out the clips as lossless AVI's (if I wanted to avoid loss of quality) and then to re-import them. They also indicated they are aware of this problem and may resolve it in future releases...

If you "open copy in sound forge" then perform your audio edit. After completing the audio edit just "save" and the edited audio track is automatically transferred back to VMS, overwriting the original audio track.
