No Audio in MPG files

Dancar wrote on 3/20/2011, 4:04 PM
When I render using the MainConcept MPEG-2/DVD Architect NTSC video stream the resulting file has no audio.

I do have audio with using the Sony AVC format, which is supposedly for Internet video.

I want to put this project onto a DVD with some other prjects I'll doing. Is "MainConcept MPEG-2/DVD Architect NTSC video stream" the best one to use for that? I havn't used DVD Architect yet, can I simply import a MP4 file with audio and make it one the programs on the DVD?

mpeg2 does not include audio. Render audio separately and if it's named the same DVDA will bring it in with the video

To clarify, the DVDA Architect templates do not include audio, to avoid recompression as well as for other good reasons.
Render separate video and AC3 audio streams as in the help files.

I don't see what the problem is here. Simply 'Render as' MainConcept MPEG-2, PAL DVD (or NTSC DVD) pull the resulting file into DVDAS, build your menus, etc, make DVD, and DVDAS will convert the audio to AC3 (which doesn't take long). As long as the initial bit rate is correct, DVDAS will not recompress the video. Simple.

I do all my DVD projects like this.

If you don't use the DVD Architect templates you risk getting an inferior quality disc. The default settings are all sub-par. The DVD Architect templates are optimized for the best quality possible.

Of course, they don't include audio, but that's because including the audio as an MP3 layer in the .mpg file is also sub-par. Converting MP3 to AC3 involves two lossy compressions.

It's not difficult at all to do a quick second render to AC3 after doing the video-only MPEG render.

Thanks. Do I take it that you mean I get inferior video when I do it my way? I don't mind the lossy audio but I want my video to be as good as possible.

Yes. However, if you want to keep doing it that way then you should create a custom template. There's a "Quality" slider that is inexplicably set for a low value in the default template. Move that all the way to the right and save it as a new template, then use that from now on. Rendering will take a little bit longer, but you'll be amazed at the result.
