No audio in preview mode or after DVD burn

Nickelpar wrote on 11/15/2006, 5:59 PM
Have been using DVD Architect v1 for almost three years with no problems. Just upgraded to v4 - and then got the 4.0a upgrade. Took same files that I have burned before with v1 and using v4 the preview mode only plays audio for the first couple of seconds on each mpeg file. Tried to burn a dvd just in case, but no audio on the finished dvd. Took the same files and burned them using v1 with no problems. Sounds like a bug but I don't see anything on the board yet. Any ideas?

What format is your audio in? If it's not PCM or AC3 I seem to recall seeing some problem reports with DVDA4 handling it correctly. It could be that V1 is just correctly converting it to a supported format and V4 isn't.

Just a shot in the dark here, but are you giving DVDA time to build peaks?

Excuse my ignorance on the audio, but would that be selected during the Vegas render? I use Vegas 4 and have always defaulted the audio. I don't see in the audio preferences or in the "render as" dialog boxes that I can select audio format.

I'm sure I'm giving DVDA time to build peaks before making the DVD. Like I said earlier, even after I open DVDA4 a couple of times on this job, I'm not even getting audio in the preview mode.

Are you using a DVDA template when rendering the MPEG-2? If so, the audio must be rendered as a seperate step. If you don't see AC3 as a rendering option, then it's because you never installed DVDA1 with Vegas 4 so you'll have to render as a WAV file and let DVDA4 do the compression to AC3 if that's what you want.

If I understand your question, I don't render in DVDA, but only use it to prepare the folders and burn the dvd. I render all vegas jobs to mpeg 2 using vegas 4 up till now. I don't need AC3, jut want any old audio. I've never need to process audio in a separate step and have burned hundreds of mpegs on dvds. Does any of this make sense???

Yes, it means you haven't been using a DVDA templatein Vegas for the video renders and you've been rendering your audio multiplexed with the video which is not the correct workflow.

You should use a DVDA template when rendering the video, then as a seperate step, render the audio from Vegas either as a WAV file or AC3 if you have that option.

Did you ever get a solution to your problem? I just upgraded to DVD4A and am having exactly the same issues with the sound cutting out in preview mode. These are Mpeg rendered files that work fine in DVD3A and everywhere else but only last a few seconds in DVD4A and the cut out. It shows on the audio file that peaks were not built. What did you end up doing?

Please provide more information. Are you rendering your video using a DVDA template from Vegas and then rendering your audio into a seperate WAV or AC3 file?

If not, that's likely your problem. The DVDA workflow has always been to render audio and video as seperate files, letting DVDA multiplex them back together when it prepares the project.

I was rendering into Mpeg 2 from Vegas as one file then inserting into DVDA. Once in DVDA it will not build any peaks after a few seconds and it goes dead. And it does not do it every time, sometimes it will render the Mpeg, seems to be just hit and miss.

Has always worked fine in the past. Did not try rendering seperately although I have done it that way in the before. It should be able to render a complete Mpeg 2 file without any issues I would think.
