no audio or frames/sec seen on timeline or trimmer

When I drop a video into the timeline, There is no video or audio seen. It is only an opaque rectangular box that represents there is something there. I imported from a Sony HDV camera into the Movie Studio 10 program. The program should allow me to see the frames both in the timeline and trimmer and I cannot view them in either. I have tried using the frames icon when using the trimmer, but still not video or audio. I really need help on this!! My editing is slow without seeing the frames.

This means that the audio and video codec for that format is not installed on your system. You need to tell us exactly what kind of formats these are.
