no audio or video event FX in V5

After upgrading to Vegas 5, I see no audio or video event FX (for example, Tools > Audio > Apply Non-Real-Time Event FX). The "Plug-in Chooser" window is totally blank. Even the place at the top where it would normally show the Audio directory is blank, and when I click the triangle on the right, I get some weird characters. See screenshot: http://www.rockisland.com/~irthlingz/vegas/plugin_problem.htm

I have:

1) uninstalled and reinstalled Vegas 5

2) upgraded to 5.0b

3) run all the migration utilities (Start>Programs>Sony>Utilities)

I still have Vegas 4 installed on the same machine. Could that be a problem?

Any help will be much appreciated!

A bit late now, but where they there before you ran the migration tool ? And what shows if you pop up a regular track fx chain.

The gibberish in the selection dialogue would tend to indicate corrupted files or HDD .

Should be no problem with V4 and V5 installed at same time.

Not at all, because I still haven't solved it!

No, that's why I ran it.

I can get the "Audio Plug-In" window with the track noise gate, track EQ, and track compressor. I tested the noise gate, and it seems to work fine.

But then wouldn't you think that reinstalling would have some effect? It doesn't change anything.

Hmmm ....

thanks for the input!

V5b seems at least as stable as V4 now, so suggest removing both V4 and V5, delete the Sony Instalation folders, and reinstall V5. And V4 if you prefer.

I appreciate your input, Geoff!

I uninstalled Vegas 4, Vegas 5, and Sound Forge (since as long as Sound Forge stayed installed, shared plug-ins were not deleted) and reinstalled Vegas 5. I am still experiencing the exact same problem. I am beginning to suspect corruption of files on the original CD. Anyone have any other theories?

Maybe it is your DirectX that is stuffed up ?

Try removing the SoSoFo apps, then updating to the latest DirectX version (I don't think it is possible to uninstall DirectX).

Also try DXMAN from:

to have a peek about DX-land.
