No audio or waveforms in Vegas Pro 9

rstrong wrote on 5/25/2010, 8:37 PM
I could have sworn I saw a no audio post, but the search function can't find anything. Does someone know why I can't get audio or the waveforms to load on the timeline?

Update: When I try to play the video clip that's on the timeline, Vegas crashes. I've seen posts about crashing, I'll look into those.

thanks
robert

Hello...........Running Vegas Pro 9.0e 64 bit. A fresh hard drive with XP Pro 64 bit, with service pack 2. I'm adding .m2t files to the timeline, same files I used with Vegas Pro 8.0c. Quicktime 6.5.1. My Vegas Pro 8.0c runs so well, I thought that I would try a Vegas Pro 9 64 bit version.
I'm downloading Mediainfo now.......

You'll probably need at least QT 7.6 or 7.6.2
7.6.4 and 7.6.5 are broken with many versions of Vegas
7.6.6 reportedly works with 9.0d

If you are feeling adventurous, you could try 7.6.6 with 9.0e and let us know how it works.

Video plays great in trimmer, still no audio though. Adding to the timeline gives an immediate crash with the send problem screen. Man this is brutal.

Quicktime 7.6 with iTunes 8 is considered generally fail-safe in Vegas.

Sounds like you've got MPEG-2 files.
Quicktime shouldn't affect this.
Have you got DVD Architect installed?
Can you post the MediaInfo details? (Right-Click on the file icon)
Can you upload a short clip of your video somewhere?

Yes, I do have DVDA installed. These are HDV clips from my Sony Z5U, where would I upload one to?

MediaFire or photobucket are used by several people on the forums.
You really should have no problems with HDV files.
I'll try opening them in my 32 bit Vegas.

Others will want to try it in their 64 bit Vegas and see if they can duplicate your issues.

Yes, these are the same clips I used in Vers. 7 & 8, with no problems whatsoever.

Update: I just dropped some avi's on the timeline, the audio waveforms showed up, and they previewed and played perfect. I noted that the .m2t files retained the markers that I placed when I used them in 8.0c 32 bit. That's strange............does this mean anything?
I'll look into Photobucket asap.
Update: Quicktime files load fine to the timeline, waveform and audio are there. I also updated to 7.6.2

Okay I just tried to upload to Photobucket, but for some reason, the file won't show up in the window to select.
Now, these are raw clips that came off the flash memory card in my Sony Z5U, does that have anything to do with no being able to upload it to Photobucket?

Did you update both Vegas and DVDA?

It seems from what you've said you've gone from a 32bit version of Vegas to a 64bit version. If you haven't updated DVDA i.e. installed the 64bit version of the Mainconcept mpeg codec that might be the cause of your problem.

Hi Bob, I did install DVDA from the same disk, but I haven't opened the program yet, which I guess it means it hasn't been activated. Do you think I have to activate it first? I'll open it up right now.

Update: I unlocked DVDA and opened it, but when I opened Vegas Pro it displayed the same problems. Only one time this whole evening did it play a clip with audio without crashing.

Update: DVDA seems to work great.

I'm going to bed, I'll check back tomorrow morning, thanks for everyone's input.

The reason we keep asking about DVDA is because it carries the codecs needed to work with your HDV files in Vegas. Just wanted to clarify.

Your QT installation should be fine now, although it does not affect your HDV files one way or another.

QT 7.6.2 is the ver. I was using with 8.0c 32 bit.

I still haven't been able to upload a file to Photobucket, it appears they don't recognize the file .m2t file format.

Update: Just got off the phone with Sony Tech support, they say XP Pro 64 bit is not supported for Vegas Pro 9. I'll try Windows 7 and see what happens?
