no audio via firewire out to dv cam

i plan to try calling tech support, but maybe someone already has the answer to this one.

i can capture audio and video just fine via firewire from my sony mini dv camcorder. but when i try to record back to tape from the timeline in external monitor preview or via the "print to dv tape" command, i get picture, but no audio.

the confusing part is, i get the test tone with the color bars, but none of the program sound will go back through the firewire. i can hear the audio just fine through my soundcard, so i know the track is there, and it registers on the onscreen meter in playback.

have consulted the help pages and a new book on vegas just purchased. nothing covers this.

any ideas?

many thanks in advance.

Well, i can lessen half your confusion. Audio is not sent out through the firewire port when previewing from the timeline. However, it should work when using print to tape. Hmmmm.

I have the same issue once in a while. I usually get both audio and video when printing to tape but a couple of weeks ago, I was really confused why no audio was exporting. I went back to the timeline and make a change or 2 to the audio track...I don't remember exactly what change I made - I think I changed the level a bit - but anyway, when I printed to tape, it re-rendered the audio track and printed to tape just fine.

I have no idea what was wrong in the first attempt, but just mainly wanted to let you know I have had a similar issue on ocassion.

So, change something in the audio to cause a re-render and see what happens.
