No Audio when importing finalized disc

I have the Vegas Movie Studio+DVD Platnium Edition. When I import my finalized disc from the camcorder there is no sound when I play it in this software. How can I fix this? The disc plays with audio in a DVD player and on other media programs on my computer. I had read that when you import a DVD the audio imports in stereo.

what type of camcorder, what type of file in on the disk? How are you importing the video/file? I think when you import a video dvd file type you have to jump through an extra hoop

do a search "video file conversion" and check out the file dated the 16th this may help you

The camcorder is a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 300. A sony tech told me to go to File---->Import--->DVD Camcorder Disk
The file is VTS_01.mpg
Everything transfers but the audio.

I checked out the file you mentioned. I tried what it said but it didn't work.

Okay, I don't have a solution for you, but I have a suspicion of the problem.

DVD camcorders record audio in AC3 format, which Vegas Movie Studio previously didn't support. VMS normally uses just PCM (wav file) audio.

Now, with VMS 6.0, Movie Studio *is* supposed to support AC3 sound *import* from DVD camcorder discs. I think it is supposed to have some kind of codec installed (should have been installed automatically when you installed your software) to handle AC3 decoding. It sounds like yours isn't working for some reason, but I'm no help in trying to figure out why.

It seems like somebody else had this problem a while back -- maybe a couple months ago. Try searching for AC3, or "no sound" or something like that. You might try re-installing VMS, just in case it was an install problem.

I assume that you don't even see the "peaks" for the for your audio track? (looks like a wave file plot on the audio track). You might also check to verify you don't somehow have your audio track muted (the whole track would turn dark gray if you did), or the Volume slider in the track header turned down? But I doubt either of those is the problem.

Also: Note that there is an updated version of VMS (6.0a) available for download, as well as an update for DVD Arch. Studio (3.0a). It mentions adding support for "VR" mode discs from SONY DVD camcorders. I don't know if that will help you or not.

I have a DCR-DVD300 camcorder also. I use the ImageMixer software (came with camcorder) to transfer (Capture) the files to my computer via USB then I just use the VMS explorer to add the files to my project. The audio works fine (it is AC3). I am using VMS 6a plat + DVD. I have not tried reading directly from the disk.

Here is a shot in the dark, but I have experienced it. I had formatted my computer, reinstalled windows xp, and then the VMS/Acid. When I placed a mpg video clip that came from my DVD cam corder (sony 403) the audio did not move up with it.

I was also not able to play the clip with audio in media player. As soon as I installed the DVD Architect software, however, all the audio started working in VMS and media player. I am assuming DVDA puts down an audio codec that is needed for DVD movies recorded by the camcorders.

From Tim L's post - I am thinking maybe the read/import only version of the AC3 codec is installed from DVDA and not VMS (seems like VMS should install it also, but doesn't)

I no longer have the software that came with the camera. I am going to try capturing it to VMS without it. I have tried everything people have been saying and nothing seems to be working.
